Spring break was a time for all of us to take a well-deserved break from the semester and relax and unwind… except for the spring sports teams who were busy playing while all of us were away. Here at The Griffon News we also took a week off, causing a break in coverage for those sporting events. We apologize for any inconvenience, but in an effort to get you caught up, here’s what you missed:

To kick off spring break, the Griffon Softball team hosted the HyVee Classic March 19-21 at the Spring Sports Complex. They lost their first four games of the tournament to teams including Concordia-St. Paul, Winona State, Bemidji State and Minnesota State. These losses snapped the Griffons’ previous win-streak, but they were able to bounce back on the final day of the tournament and secure two wins on Sunday. The women first defeated No. 14 Winona State 3-1 and then shut out Upper Iowa 4-0.

On Friday, March 26, the softball team traveled down to Oklahoma and won both games in a doubleheader at Rogers State. On Saturday, March 27, they stayed in the Sooner State where they went 1-1 in a doubleheader at Northeastern State.

Womens' lacrosse made the trip out to Colorado on Sunday, March 21, where they lost a close game to Colorado State-Pueblo, 18-16.

Womens' soccer had a win on Sunday, March 21, over conference opponent Missouri Southern. The Griffons won 2-1 in Joplin.

Mens' golf played in the Washburn Invitational in Kansas on March 22-23, where they finished second as a team.

Womens' golf was in Arkansas at the Henderson State Invite on March 22-23, where they finished fourth as a team.

Womens' volleyball had two matchups over the break. On Wednesday, March 24, the Griffons had a 3-1 win over Park University at home.

On Saturday, March 27, the women competed in the Washburn Crossover in Topeka, Kansas. There, the Griffons defeated two conference opponents, including a win over Pittsburg State 3-2 and another win over Emporia State 3-2.

Womens' tennis had a match against William Jewell on Saturday, March 27, where the Griffons defeated the Cardinals 6-1.
