The Missouri Western women’s basketball team beat University of Central Missouri 67-57 Saturday afternoon, bringing the Jennies 15-game-winning streak to a sudden end.

The Griffons trailed the Jennies during the 1st quarter 2-0 for twenty two seconds but remained the leaders in scoring for the continuance of the game. This win for the Griffons also eliminated a seven-game losing streak to the Jennies that began in January of 2005 as well as throwing Central Missouri it'd first MIAA loss of the season.

The win with Newman's loss on Saturday clinched the team's spot in the MIAA Women's Basketball Championships to be held March 4-8 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri.

The leading scorers in this game were Katrina Roenfeldt, Corbyn Cunningham, Kylee Williams and Anastacia Johnson, who all scored in double digits contributing majorly to the final score. Roenfeldt was the leading scorer with 17 points, 5 assists, and went 5-of-9 from three-point range.

Williams was 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, also scoring 11 points. Missouri Western had the advantage for 38:56 of the game dominating by two 18-point lead occasions.

All five Griffons starters scored in double figures with Cunningham and Chris Wilson both turning in double-doubles.

Griffons finished 67-57 with two good free throw points by Wilson ending the 4th quarter with a total of 36 points in the paint and 17 off turnovers.

The Griffons also defeated Lincoln University this last weekend by a score of 72-53.

The game started hot for Missouri Western, beginning with a 15-0 run that was just the tip of a lopsided first quarter that ended with a Griffons 26-9 lead.

Just like the game against UCM, all five Griffon starters ended with double-digit points. Wilson led the Griffons with 17 points, while Cunningham scored 15 points and added nine rebounds.

The Griffons take on the Gorillas tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Pittsburg State University and then travel to Joplin, Missouri, on Saturday to face the Lions of Missouri Southern.
