Students gathered in Blum Union for contests, cookie decorating and to meet the different organizations Missouri Western has to offer.
The annual Heart Your Union event took place on Thursday, Feb. 20. Although the Valentine’s themed event was originally scheduled for the week of Valentine’s day, students were thankful it wasn't canceled completely due to inclement weather.
Heart Your Union is a meet and greet opportunity for organizations and offices to briefly showcase what they have to offer. According to Career Development Director Megan Raney the event is a great way to directly engage with students that she may not typically get the chance to meet.
“It's also a really good chance to get students attention and a fun way of promoting the services we offer as well as communicate our events,” Raney said. “It is also a good time to answer any questions students have.”
The event was planned by the Director of Student Involvement Jashira Bolden, who was responsible for directing organizations to get signed up for a booth. According to Bolden, Heart Your Union is the perfect chance for students to find where they belong at Missouri Western because she believes all students have a place where they can fit in and get involved.
“Students are more likely to get involved with your organization if they have the chance to meet with you,” Bolden said. “I really think it's a visibility thing. So if you have a table, there's a good chance you will spark interest of potential members.”
The exposure to new organizations wasn't the only thing sparking the interest of students. The union was full of frills, from decorated booths and chocolate covered strawberries, to a photo booth and raffles where you could enter for the chance to win a TV and much more.
Students felt the event was beneficial especially with the many changes happening on campus. Sophomore, Joanna Reital said the event was very helpful in understanding where offices have moved on in the union and helped her to be introduced to new organizations.
