The Presidential Search committee is reaching the end of its mission now that they have narrowed down the candidates to the top 10.
The committee has been meeting several times since the fall of last year. The previous meeting was held in January, and during the meeting the committee went through approximately 70 applicants and narrowed it down to the top 15. After going through references, the committee met again to narrow it down to the top 10. The applicants will be taking place in off-campus interviews this weekend.
Chair of the Board of Governors, David Liechti is leading the committee and feels like everything is falling into place the way it should be.
“I think they are going quite well so far,” Liechti said. “I think we have a good pool of candidates which makes me excited. I’m extremely excited about the next couple phases. The committee has worked well together and whole the process has been very fluid, and they work well together.”
The top three candidates will be decided after the off-site interviews take place. Once the top three are decided, they will be announced and will visit campus throughout the week. After that takes place, the Board of Governors will listen to the search committee’s options and will make the final decision on who will take Dr. Robert Vartabedian’s position.
Student Government Association President Austen Hall feels like the committee has been making all the correct choices so far in the process.
“The candidates are looking great,” Hall said. “Everybody is on the same page as far as what we’re looking for. Everyone has their own angle that they take with it, but we’re definitely looking for someone who is student focused but can also build relations, externally and internally. And to just make Missouri Western as good as it can be.”
The Presidential Search Committee is made up of a combination of students, faculty, administrators, staff, community members and Board of Governors members.
The Board of Governors plans to announce the new president before the end of the semester.
