Missouri Westerns Annual Fall Homecoming Parade will take place this year on Saturday, October 13th, at 9 a.m. in downtown St. Joseph.
This year the parade route is different due to complaints from residents of 22nd street, according to Missouri Western Administrative Coordinator Jessica Frogge.
“In the years I have done homecoming, this will be the first time the full parade will start at City Hall all together,” Frogge said.
The parade will start on 11th & Faraon/Frederick. From there it will go southwest on Frederick to Francis, then west on Francis to 4th St., south on 4th to Felix, east on Felix St. and end at 10th & Felix. The parade will be a mixture of student run organizations, as well as local St. Joseph floats.
Some of the floats in the parade will be sororities from Missouri Western competing for the best float. Sorority Tri Sigma won the float contest last year and are hopeful for this years contest as well.
“It will be very competitive since we won last year,” Tri Sigma sorority member Shannon Redmond said. “We are trying to keep our title this year.”
Redmond has taken part in the Homecoming parade for the past three years, and has enjoyed every year.
“It’s great to see everyone come out and support Western,” Redmond said.” We love seeing kids come out too. We always throw out candy for them.”
The parade is expected to be rather cold this year with the temperature looking at a high of 57 degrees and a low of 41 degrees. The forecast for rain, however, looks unlikely and while it may not be a sunny morning, it should not be a wet one.
