When you bring up the topic of Missouri Western sports, it’s hard to not instantly think of the volleyball team and all of the remarkable accomplishments they have achieved the past few seasons. Junior outside hitter Stephanie Doak could be considered one of the main factors to the success of Missouri Western volleyball. After being named First Team All-MIAA last year, Doak is back this season and ready to continue unfinished business.
“ I think it’s going to be a fun season coming off last year and finishing so high,” Doak said. “We’re ready to get back there.”
Western is a team that’s used to going to big tournaments and showing why they deserve to be there, and it seems like that’s the same case this season. This past weekend, Western played in a preseason tournament in Colorado. Despite finishing 1-3, the Griffons swept some big-time competition, It seems as if each season Western has been able to build on the success of the previous season. This year, Doak and the Griffons have decided to set mini milestones to achieve along the way this season.
“Whether it be sweeping certain teams, beating MIAA teams in tournaments or whatever little goals we can achieve to help us get to our big one,” Doak said.
Doak wants all her friends and family to know that she’s ready to compete and give them a show at the first home volleyball game.
“It’s going to be really exciting, and there’s going to be a lot of good competitors in our league this year,” Doak said. “I’m just ready for the crowd to come out and support.” Doak is definitely looking forward to leading the Griffons back to the road of success. She knows it won’t be easy, but it’s something she’s looking forward to this season.
