Over the past year, there have been several new smoothie places that have popped up in St. Joseph. As someone who’s already running around and convincing myself that I don’t have enough time to sit down and eat, these places are the perfect option. Someone had suggested that Mitchell Avenue Nutrition sold these teas that helped give you energy, but without the horrible withdrawals that come with missing a day or two of caffeine intake.
At first, I was hesitant about the pricing, running around $10 if you get a tea and a smoothie. After I found out these two could be sold separately, I was relieved. I noticed however that every time I’ve gone in, I always justify getting both drinks anyways because of a. They’re amazing and b. It honestly does free up time to continue doing other things when you can just drink a meal replacement. Which, as someone who works and goes to school full-time, is perfect.
There are two places in St. Joseph that have similar styles of operation. Mitchell Avenue Nutrition is undoubtedly my home base. The staff is super friendly and, it sounds a little pretentious, but you almost feel like you’re part of an exclusive club. Except that’s the wonderful part, every time I visit there’s such a variety of personalities in there. You don’t have to be a health nut or even part of the #FitFam to feel at home there.
The other day I was low on cash but remembered I had a coupon to try a similar store on King Hill Avenue. The store is a bit far away, but free is free, so I figured why not. The first thing I noticed about Body Fuel is the inside is really inviting, with a ton of places to sit. While Mitchell Avenue Nutrition has a smaller waiting space that the more introverted types might find intimidating.
While I was at Body Fuel, I had to pretend I didn’t know the drill, which felt really scandalous but for the sake of review and (redeeming my free “first-time customer” coupon), I let the staff walk me through the drill.
Whichever store you stop by, the three main things you’re going to pick out are an aloe shot, which is amazing for hydration and digestion, as well as a meal replacement, and an energy boosting tea. The thing that surprised me about Body Fuel is that they seem to only offer the level 1 teas. Each level of tea in both stores is worth around one cup of coffee as far as energy boosting goes. Mitchell Avenue Nutrition, on the other hand, offers level 2 and level 3 teas, with some really awesome flavors such as Captain America, Beauty and the Beast, and even a Max Griffon one.
Both locations have their benefits, depending on the desire of your visit. The stores offer other things as well, like protein bars and healthy snacks. They also work to tailor your purchase to whatever health benefits you’re wanting. Right now, for example, I’m looking for whatever they can toss me to boost energy. If you’re trying to get through this next week of finals, it’s definitely worth throwing down the money in trade for saving your sanity.
