April 5th Missouri Western welcomes its final special guest of the spring semester: actor, comedian and youngest sibling of the iconic Wayans family, Marlon Wayans.
Several months ago, the Western Activities Council held a poll giving students the power to select who they would like to see come to Western’s campus. Four comedians were involved in the voting (David Spade, Wayans, Bob Saget and Deon Cole) and on March 12th the selection was in and the student body chose Wayans. The process of getting Wayans to come to Western was a collaborative effort between the Center for Student Involvement, Center for Multicultural events and WAC. Wayans, who dabbles in both acting and stand-up, is coming off of the release of his Netflix special “Wokeish.” The comedian will be performing a stand-up special in the Looney complex at 7 P.M and official sponsor of this event, the Rotaract Club, has a surprise for audience members who donate, says Assistant Dean of Student Development Isaiah Collier.
“In order to assist the Rotoract Club, if students give one non-perishable food item they will receive a floor seat for the comedy show,” Collier said.
For audience members looking forward to getting the chance to personally meet Wayans, a small meet-and-greet is going to be set up for select individuals. Signs as well as billboards have been posted around campus promoting Wayans’ arrival and chatter amongst students is heating up, says Western student Lonnie Dobard.
“A lot of people are really excited for him to come here,” Dobard said. “He’s always been a funny, goofy type of guy, so this should be a good time.”
This event is free to all Western students that present a student ID and is $5 to members of the community. Doors will be opening at 6 P.M. Purses and bags are not permitted at this event. For students who are interested in deciding our next special guest, visit the WAC poll on the Western website.
