This Feb. 23. Missouri Western presents an eight-time Tony Award-winning musical that will surely make you relieve the toughest cycles of your life, puberty.
This mature German-based rock opera invites you into the lives of teenagers who are going through the most confusing time of their lives. German playwright Frank Wedekind is notorious for his works that focus on sex and in 1891 Wedekind created arguably his most famous script with Spring Awakening.
Spring Awakening was so popular that it made an appearance on Broadway in 2007. The unorthodox musical is centered mainly around two adolescent characters. They are mezzo-soprano Wendla Bergman played by Mycah Williams and baritone Melchior Gabor played by Jalen Redmond.
This year the cast has been practicing non-stop in preparation for this event. Just ask cast member , who also starred in last years presentation of School House Rock, Dalyn LeGrand.
“We’ve been rehearsing from 10 a.m.- 10 p.m.,” LeGrand said.
The cast was assembled last year in November through an audition process that took place in Potter theater, and according to assistant professor of musical theater Morgan Mallory the final cast will include:
Marianna/Female Swing–Madison Hovenga
Adult Women–Libby Denney
Adult Men–Frederick Olson
This year the cast has a bunch of new talent and experienced cast member Abby Sexton believes that the new cast will steal the show.
“I’m really excited for audiences to see the new talent in this production- we have a lot of new performers in our show. Some who are making their Potter Theater debut, some who’ve never performed period and you wouldn’t be able to tell sitting watching the show. Everyone in the cast has brought something unique and dynamic to our show that, when put together, creates a truly breathtaking show,” Sexton said.
Spring Awakening will make its debut on Feb. 23. and runs through Mar. 3. in the Potter Theater. The musical is intended for mature audiences so children should be accompanied by a parent.
