We hope your semester is going well! My name is Alec Guy, and I am the Student Government Association (SGA) President until April 19. I am a senior majoring in political science and economics. I have really enjoyed my time at MWSU for many reasons but mostly because of working with, learning with, and getting to know all of you, my fellow students and friends. That is why I decided to run for SGA President – so that I could attempt to make your time at Missouri Western great!
I am Connor Samenus, your current SGA Executive Vice President. I am a senior majoring in both finance and accounting, while also being in the honors program. This is my fourth year serving in SGA. Missouri Western has offered me countless opportunities to develop into the person I am today, which is why I have been thrilled to work towards the betterment of the university for the students! I have had the privilege of orchestrating SGA meetings this year, which have been productive in advocating for students’ needs on campus.
SGA is the organization that represents students in all matters. While we do many things to represent the student body, some of our roles are spending money to help improve the campus and working with administration to pursue student interests, just to name a few – we would go more in depth, but we have a word limit! We hope we have accurately represented your interests and served you well this year.
Even though our term is almost finished, we want to strongly encourage you to make use of SGA. Our office (Blum 217) is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., our Senate meetings, which are held on Mondays at 5 p.m., are open to all students, and our Senators and Executive Board always strive to communicate with students to the best of their ability. We both strongly believe that SGA cannot succeed without the input of the students. However, we understand that SGA has to be proactive in seeking your opinions, which we attempted to do this year. We believe we made some improvements, and we think the next SGA Administration will make the organization even better.
Our SGA Administration accomplished quite a bit for the benefit of the students. We have put an emphasis on transparency by visiting student organizations, tabling in both the student union and academic buildings and having a meeting in the food court. In addition to the current services we offer, we now have GriffsGiveBack, which is a community service center, and a free one-time legal consultation on campus provided by Legal Aid. Further, our committees have planned and executed events that covered the 2016 election and sexual assault awareness, to name a few. Our Capital Projects committee supplied funds to improve and beautify campus as well.
Finally, we want to say thank you for the opportunity to serve this year. It seems like just yesterday we were drafting a welcome letter discussing our goals and how we hoped to work for you over the next year. Our goal was to improve the Griffon Family, something we both love about Missouri Western, by working with you, the students. Attempting to improve Missouri Western and your college experience was our pleasure. These positions allowed us to grow immensely as individuals, and we have learned so much. We cannot thank you enough for this opportunity. We hope you have had a good year and that your semester is finishing up strong. We are still happy to help you however we can during the remainder of this spring, so feel free to let us know if you need anything. Have a great week, and #GoGriffs!
