SGA VP elect steps down, Sen. appointed VP

Sen. Brad Stanton was announced the new SGA Vice President elect during the Western Board of Governors meeting Thursday.

Sen. Stanton is optimistic about the coming year.

“I’m thankful to Ida for giving me the ability to serve in this capacity,” Stanton said. “I’m also excited to work hard with the SGA Senate for the students of Missouri Western State University to give them a voice and to better this campus.”

Stanton was appointed to the position after the past SGA Vice President elect and current SGA President, Daniel Hager stepped down from the position.

Brandon Grieshaber, SGA vice president of finance, explains that Hager left the position due to personal reasons.

“I think under the circumstances, it is best that he is stepping down,”Grieshaber said.

Grieshaber is confident in Stanton’s leadership abilities.

“Over the past two semesters, Brad has shown great potential to lead the Senate,” Grieshaber said. “I think it’s going to show a bright future for the Senate.”

Sen. Stanton was elected to SGA in the spring 2014 semester and has served since. Sen. Stanton was appointed as Parliamentarian during the fall 2015 semester.

Haefner’s appointment of Stanton followed Article IV Section 4D of the SGA Constitution, which allows the SGA President to appoint a Senator, or qualified student, to fill a vacancy.

Although the 2015 spring semester positions will be inaugurated this evening, Haefner’s appoint is not set in stone– the 2015 spring semester Senate must approve Stanton by a 2/3 vote.
