Top 5 break up songs

There are two phases in almost every break up.

There’s the phase where every song is sad and probably acoustic. This is the cliché scenario of girls crying over a tub of ice cream while some stupid romantic comedy plays in the background.

Then there’s the phase where every song is angry and energetic. This is the cliché part where the girl is singing loudly about how the other person was a total jerk and that they’re so much better off without them.

So, regardless of whether you are currently post-breakup, mid-breakup or happily committed/single this Valentine’s Day, you can probably relate to one of these songs.

5. Gonna Get Over You – Sara Bareilles

Sing this as loud as you can. It’s catchy as heck and it’s the perfect song for transitioning between the sad to “I’m kinda okay” phases mentioned earlier.

“How am I gonna get over you? I’ll be alright, just not tonight. But someday.”

Why yes, I will get over you. I can cry now, but maybe tomorrow I’ll be cool with it.

4. Miserable At Best – Mayday Parade

Cry along to this one. It’s sad, but you’re sad so it makes sense. I’m sure you’ll be okay soon, but right now, this is the hardest thing you’ve ever gone through. So grab those tissues and put this on repeat for a few hours.

“But I guess that I can live without you, but, without you, I’ll be miserable at best.”

3. Go To Hell – Go Radio

Do you ever imagine yourself doing some cool musical number whenever someone screws you over? No? Just me?

Well yeah, this is that song that if given the chance, I would totally scream at some people. Everyone needs that one really good angry song, so.

“Let me make this crystal clear, that I don’t need your help and I’m okay by myself. You can go to hell.”

Basically, this is a more alternative version of Taylor Swift’s “Mean.”

2. Amnesia – 5 Seconds Of Summer

Okay, you know that part of the breakup where every memory you can think of is the happy ones? Like, for some unknown reason, everything about the relationship was just perfect?

This song is all about that one part.

“I wish that I could wake up with amnesia and forget about the stupid little things. Like how it felt to fall asleep next to you and the memories I never can escape. ‘Cause I’m not fine at all.”

Don’t worry, buddy, you’ll get past this part soon.

1. I’ve Given Up On You – Real Friends

Are you totally over crying, but you’re still too sad to be angsty? Here’s another ‘transition between phases’ song.

Plus, it has one of those lines where your first reactions is something like: “Yes! That is totally how I feel!”

“You’re the reason why I can’t listen to those same songs I used to.”
