Let it Go

With that lovely Missouri weather, there are those times when St. Joseph gets a large accumulation of snow, which then gets people to wonder what to do for that day.

While staying at home and catching up on those Netflix shows (who does homework on snow days?) seems like the best thing to do, there are more fun activities to do in the snow.

The first of those activities is sledding. When I was a kid, I went out and found a giant hill covered in snow to sled on. The thrill of going down a hill at high speeds is priceless.

In today’s society, technology has a huge impact on what people do with their lives and every time it snows, hardly anyone goes sledding.

The second fun activity to do in the snow would be skiing or snowboarding.

Skiing and snowboarding are definitely something everyone should experience at least once.

Like sledding, your going down hills at high speeds, with the possibility of doing jumps and tricks you never knew you could do.

The best way to go skiing or snowboarding if you live in St. Joseph is going to Snow Creek Ski Resort in Platte County.

Snow Creek is open all throughout February and the first week of March. Weekday hours are noon to 9 p.m. Weekend hours are 9 a.m. to 12 a.m.

If you feel like going skiing or snowboarding, go to skisnowcreek.com and reserve your spot on their calendar.

Another activity to do in the snow is a building a snow fort. If you have never experienced this, I recommend that you do.

“But Mason, that just seems so childish.”

False! If you’re bored on a snow day, call your friends and get them on board. The more people there are, the better. Once a snow fort is built, you could have some serious fun with it.

You could build snow soldiers (snowman) and have other people try to take over the fort. Basically, it’s a giant snowball fight.

Keep in mind that you do have to be careful not to seriously harm anyone or careful where you build it. Some areas would be mad if their property had some sort of fort and a bunch of people on it.

The final snow activity on this list is snow sculpting. You’ve scrolled through the Internet and saw the snow beds or furniture and the other funny things people have done with snow. Why not try it out? Building something has always been fun, and what better way to let that artistic side of you shine?
