In this year’s production of “Of Mice and Men” the role of George is played by Steve Catron.
Catron’s character is a down-and-out, lonely man and Catron explains that it was a role far removed from both who he is and what he has done in the past.
“Well, this is actually the farthest I have ever been from my personality,” he said. “This is a complete one-eighty from who I am, it’s also a complete one-eight from the majority of the parts that I have had to play. I am usually either comic relief or a really strong character piece; but this guy, he almost blends in with the natural environment around him because he is this every-man that represents every guy’s struggle going through life.”
Catron explains that balancing all of the rehearsals and school and his personal life takes a lot of effort.
“I take a lot of deep breaths and I pray to a lot of gods and I just try not to cry myself to sleep at night,” he said.
Catron says he got a late start on acting at age 20, but now that he has found it, he isn’t stopping anytime soon.
