Griffons hope to ace a win

Missouri Western's tennis team just finished their latest matchup with the Lions from Lindenwood University. The game was held on Friday , April 7 at the courts at Looney. The Griffons picked up a few victories from some star players on the team's roster. Lindsey Beger received the win against the Lions, with scores of 6-4, 5-7, and 7-6. The matches were played in the No. 5 singles matchups on Friday . Meara Smith , along with Alyssa Dougan, won by a score of 8-4 over Diana Castro and Clara Piccamiglio from Lindenwood University. This weekend is quite a game maker from the tennis team. The girls are playing Lincoln University on the afternoon of April 11 at 3:00p.m. Head Coach Tom Smith said "I think we may have the chance to play a great matchup  today. I am excited for the rest of the weekend's matches as well." On Saturday the team will be up against Northwestern State at 3:00 p.m. in Bolivar, MO. After playing the Northwestern State team Western will face Southwest Baptist who is currently in the Top 10 in the country for MIAA. Griffon players Ceara Boldridge a junior from Overland Park, KS and Meara Smith a sophomore from Kansas City, MO are both ready for the upcoming weekend. The Griffons will be than coming back to the courts on Monday when they go against the William Jewell Cardinals tennis team. The Griffons tennis team struggled against the Northeastern State River Hawks, falling 5-1 in MIAA. The team's lone victory came in No. 3 doubles, as Kayla Dysart and Alyssa Dougan defeated Houda Bellamine and Maria Lodge who was 8-6. The Griffons are now 0-9 in the their season and 0-5 in the standings for MIAA. The team continued to fall in close matches, this time against the Truman State Bulldogs in non-conference action by a core of 5-4. All of the matches were rather close,  however the Griffons could not get another victory as the remain winless as a team on the current season. They currently sit at 0-11 with the lost. Western will be returning to MIAA play on Friday, April 4, when they will be taking on the Lindenwood Lions  at 3:00 p.m. at the Noyes Tennis Courts.
