Western wrapped up their soccer season with a 1-0 loss to the Lions of Missouri Southern.
The first half remained quiet, as it has for most of the season. The Griffons were able to shutdown the Lions offensively to keep the score 0-0 going into halftime.
In the second half, the game was still scoreless with only 20 minutes remaining in the contest. However, in the 72nd minute, Tiffany Laughlin was able to score one off a save. That goal would make it 1-0 in favor of Southern.
The score would stay that way, completing the Griffons season with another loss.
Goalkeeper for the Lions, Abby Risney, had seven saves in the contest. Southern nailed 14 of their 16 shots on goal. With the win, the Lions are at 4-7-4.
Sarah Lyle, Western goalkeeper, claimed 13 saves on the night. Overall she has 111 on the season, with 31 goals allowed by opponents.
Overall, Western managed seven of their 19 shots on goal. Forward KC Ramsell had a career-high seven shots with three being on goal.
The team made a collective 103 of 198 shots on goal.
Unfortunately, the Griffons only made eight goals the whole season, half of which came from forward Tara Russell. The other four came from midfielders Ashley Juravich and Drew Mantlo.
Five Griffons started and played in all 18 games. Defender Sydney Andrews recorded the most minutes among the team with 1570 total.
Four Griffons recorded more than 10 shots on goal. Juravich made 12 of 22, Ramsell had 19 of 37, Russell landed 17 of 27 and Teddi Serna had 18 of 33.
Andrews, Bailey Dervin, Katie Kempf and Russell each recorded on of Western’s four assists on the season.
The Griffons end the season at 2-14-2 overall and 0-10-1 in MIAA play.
