NBA Season is going to be a Heated one

Featured Sports Opinion

Despite the Miami Heat being the favorites to win the NBA championship, let’s not forget about other teams who could win the title.

Last season, the San Antonio Spurs came very close to winning the championship, losing just by three points in game six with a 3-2 lead in the series. That proves that the Heat can lose this year.

These are my opinions of NBA teams that have potential of being a champion this season and is by no means rankings.

But before we get to the Spurs, let’s first review the top teams in the East conference.

As always, we have Miami. They proved to NBA fans that they are a force to be reckoned with, winning two championships in a row. If they win again this year, they will be the fourth team in NBA history to win three championships in a row.

However, there is one issue that has Miami fans worried this season. Dwyane Wade just had surgery on his knee before the season started, and on Oct. 30, in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers, he didn’t play due to knee problems.

The number two team in the East that I think is going to give Miami trouble is the Indiana Pacers. Last season, during the playoffs, the Pacers gave Miami a lot of trouble, and played hard.  While Danny Granger is sidelined with a calf injury, the Pacers still proved to be a solid team without him. So with Granger soon to be back, the Pacers have a really good chance of going to the finals.

The Chicago Bulls earn my No. 3 pick. With Derrick Rose back in action after his ACL injury, the Bulls are championship material.

Last season, they played hard without Rose, and got themselves to the Playoffs. Despite a slow start for Rose, I’m sure we’ll see a lot of him and his team this season.

My last pick in the East goes to the Brooklyn Nets. Despite a rocky season last year, Brooklyn and Boston made one of the biggest deals in the off-season. Boston gets some fresh new players that are okay, and in return, Brooklyn gets Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

Sure, age may be a factor, but they still have a couple of seasons left in them. If they still play well and with a combination of some young talent, Brooklyn might have a shot for that title.

First up in the West is the San Antonio Spurs. Last season, they came close to beating Miami and winning the championship. They played fantastic basketball, and proved why they were number one in the West.

I think they can do it again, as long as they play like they did last season and injuries don’t affect the starting line-up.

My second pick for the West is the Minnesota Timberwolves. They have a good offensive team, with Ricky Rubio as a magnificent passer and Kevin Love an offensive nightmare.

Rick Adelman returned as the head coach of the Timberwolves and plays a huge factor in the new season. He has a total of 1005 wins and 708 losses in his career and is considered one of the best coaches in the NBA.

With a solid team, I feel the Timberwolves could be a championship contender this season.

The Houston Rockets take my No. 3 spot on my list. Last season, they were a mediocre team, with only James Harden as an offensive force. They did make the Playoffs, but now turn to new heights. During the offseason, they made a huge change in the starting line-up, and signed three-time defensive player of the year, Dwight Howard.

With Harden, Howard and Jeremy Lin, they have a big opportunity to be a solid team and go all the way.

And my last pick for the West goes to the Golden State Warriors. They, too, earned themselves a playoff spot last season, and they played very good.

Their whole roster is an offensive force and with a team that good, they might go all out to the NBA championship.

Overall, this NBA season is going to be very competitive and entertaining, and any team can come up top to earn a championship.
