Soccer falls to Northeastern State

Western fell just shy of the Northeastern State RiverHawks on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Once again, the Griffons fought hard in the first half. The defense held up against a tough Northeastern offense, fighting the RiverHawks to a 0-0 tie going into halftime.
The battle continued throughout the game. The RiverHawks had a stroke of luck in the 78th minute when Elizabeth Cudjoe scored her fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick. The goal would make the score 1-0 in favor of Northeastern.
Northeastern would manage 11 of 23 shots on goal, with eight RiverHawks collecting the SOGs. Lindsey Latta would lead the team landing three of her four shots on goal. Goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff would collect three saves on the day.
The Griffons would knock up seven shots. Midfielder Bailey Dervin led the way with three, followed by MF Teddi Serna collecting two and forward Marissa Nolan and defender Sydney Andrews each claiming one. Andrews, Dervin and Serna each had a shot on goal during the contest. Goalkeeper Sarah Lyle would rack up 10 saves on the day.
With the 1-0 loss, Western falls to 2-8-1 overall and 0-4 in MIAA play.
The Griffons head back to Spratt Stadium for four straight games. They will face the Ichabods of Washburn on Friday, Oct. 11 for Homecoming week. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
