Western fell short in their rematch against the Northwest Bearcats on Friday, Sept. 27.

Earlier in the week, Western welcomed the Bearcats to Spratt Stadium for a non-conference match up. The game would end in a 1-1 tie, going into double overtime.

The Griffons headed to Maryville, MO to face Northwest in the second conference game of the season.

The rematch began much like the previous game had. Neither team could manage a clear shot. But the fight for possession of the ball was well-fought on both ends. It would be 0-0 going into halftime.

It was all Northwest in the second half, however. The Bearcats managed 12 shots to Western’s three. In the 87th minute, Jordan Albright of the Bearcats knocked in an unassisted goal. They would rack up another just three minutes later. Anna Calgaard, who scored in the previous game, would sink one to the back of the net off of a corner kick with just 10 seconds left to play.

The game would end 2-0 in favor of Northwest.

Western goalkeeper Sarah Lyle had nine saves on the night. Kelsey Adams of Northwest would rack up four saves.

Overall, Northwest would land 11 of 17 shots on goal. They rise to 2-4-1 on the season and are 1-1 in MIAA play.

The Griffons could only get four of seven shots on goal. Midfielders Ashley Juravich and Teddi Serna would each have one of two on goal. Forward K.C. Ramsell had one of two, as well. Forward Tara Russell, who scored in the previous match up, would land her only shot on goal.

Western falls to 2-6-1 on the season and are 0-2 in MIAA play.

The Griffons will head Edmond, OK on Friday, Oct. 4 to face the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
