Soccer loses traction to Truman State

Western fell short to Truman State in a 4-0 loss on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

The Griffons traveled to Kirksville, MO to face off against the Bulldogs of Truman State in a non-conference game.

TSU started off early, Melanie Hunt put them on the board in the 8th minute off of an assist from Sally Smith. Within six minutes, they made it 2-0 with a goal from Alexis Heffernan and the assists going to Hunt and Kristina Weishar. Western gave the Bulldogs their third goal of the half on an own goal, putting the Griffons down 3-0 going into halftime.

Western goalkeeper Sarah Lyle had two saves in the first half. Rayelin Garcia would take over her spot for the second half.

The Griffons had six shots with four on goal. TSU had five shots on goal.

The second half would start slow. In the 61st minute, Stephanie Williams of TSU would put up another goal off an assist from Heffernan and Weishar. The score would stay put at 4-0 for the remainder of the game.

TSU had seven of 18 shots on goal on the night. Bulldog goalkeeper Emily Bozdeck had four saves on the night.

Garcia had one save during the second half. Forward Tara Russell had three shots with two on goal. Forward K.C. Ramsell and midfielder Teddi Serna each had one shot on goal. The Griffons are now 2-3 on the season.

Western will be heading to Lamoni, Iowa on Friday, Sept. 20 to face the Yellow Jackets of Graceland University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
