New EIC welcomes students, semester

I’ve lost a lot of sleep over the Griffon News.
At the time, I thought it was to finish articles, but meeting deadline wasn’t why I had spent so many nights awake, stressing over details within the columns of the paper.
Before becoming Editor-in-Chief (EIC) I never reflected on why, exactly, I’ve given up so many hours of my college career to the paper. Well, I’ve finally figured it out. It’s because of you, the reader.
My first semester as EIC, I only have one goal: serving our readership. I want the Griffon News to be a campus publication that students can trust and rely on to relay accurate information about Western.
To realize that goal, of serving our readership, a few things will change from previous semesters.
First, I want to know what you, the reader, want. Facebook and Twitter have changed the way that we communicate and I hope that you feel free to email, tweet or message me.
But honestly, in the day and age of social media hyperactivity, I can’t neglect the importance of a good ol’ face-to-face conversation.
Feel free to chat me up while waiting in line to get coffee. Or at Einstein’s. Or anywhere that you see me. I’ll never be too busy talk to you. I just wanted to throw that out there.
Also, another way that I aim to serve our readership is by moving the majority of our content to an “online first” model. I realize the limitations of publishing a weekly paper.
This means that the Griffon News will be publishing articles online first and then updating them to provide the most accurate information to our readership.
Lastly, I just want to say that as a student managing a student-run newspaper, I might not always get things right.
I’m sure that under my leadership the Griffon News may experience a few growing pains, but please understand that I’m all trying our best to bring accurate, informational news about Western.
So anyways, if any of you ever want to swing by the newsroom to talk about how I can serve you, please do. If your schedule’s too hectic shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
And of course, have a great semester Griffs!
