Alpha Delta Gamma hosts Mr. MWSU

March 4, 2010 No CommentsIt’s time for the men of Missouri Western to dust off their dancing shoes and have their suits dry cleaned. That’s right, it’s the 15th annual Mr. MWSU.
The first informational meeting for any male student interested in becoming a candidate or any campus organization sponsoring a candidate is March 10 at 7 pm in Blum 211.
This year’s competition will take place in Kemper Recital Hall on April 14 at 7 p.m. The evening’s events will include talent, costume, swimwear and formalwear. This year’s MC is sophomore and Tau Kappa Epsilon member Pierce Karguth.
“I was hanging out with a friend in ADG and mentioned that I wanted to help with it. She said they were looking for an MC and I kind of volunteered myself.”
Mr. MWSU is sponsored by the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority to raise money for their chapter philanthropy, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation.
Each contestant is required to have an organizational sponsor. There is a $15 registration fee and each contestant is encouraged to raise as much money as they possibly can. Proceeds will benefit research for juvenile diabetes.
According to the juvenile diabetes research fund, “Type 1 diabetes usually strikes children, adolescents, and young adults, but it can be diagnosed in adults as well. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Each year, more than 15,000 children – 40 per day – are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the U.S.”
Chapter president, Hillari Krull has been in AGD for almost two and a half years and has gone to the Mr. MWSU twice.
“I’ve been lucky enough to always get to sit in the audience and it’s fun watch the guys do all kinds of crazy stuff. When they do the formal part some of the guys do silly stuff and come out in like prom dresses. It’s pretty funny.”
Krysten Lantz, Alpha Gamma Delta philanthropy coordinator, is hoping for an even better event this year than the last.
“We are aiming for at least $1,000 but we would love to beat last year.”
Last year’s eleven contestants raised a cumulative $2,038.83 for diabetes research.
According to the ADG Foundation website, the foundation was created in 1962 for the women of ADG to ensure the sorority’s mission would be to always have members making positive differences on their campuses and communities.
