Missouri Western Griffons took on Upper Iowa Peacocks in a four-game series. The Missouri Western baseball team improved their record to 15-13 on the season by
sweeping the Upper Iowa Peacocks. The Griffons defeated the Peacocks 7-3 in game one and then scored four runs off two homeruns in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 5-3 victory in game two. In game one the Griffons bottom two hitters Danny Conners and Brady Ellis combined to go five for five with four runs and two RBIs to pick up the 7-3 victory.
In game two the Griffons jumped on the board in the first inning as they use three infield singles and Griffons take the lead 1-0. Neither of the teams weren’t able to score any runs until the bottom of the seventh inning. A.J. Huttenlocker and Chris Sunvold both men came in the game and held their piching together for Sunday’s game.
The Peacocks would score three runs in the top of the second to take the 3-1 lead.
Western’s Cody Tipton would lead off the inning reaching on a throwing error by the second baseman. Tipton would advance to second on a stolen base and to third on an error by the catcher. Danny Conners would take a 1-1 pitch deep to left field to tie the score at three.
The Griffons hit two home runs at the bottom of the seventh scoring four points in the seventh inning.
“Starting the weekend off on a positive note brings confidence to team” outfielder Adan Mercado said.
With great leadership the Griffons were able to come back in the last inning because of hard work, aggressive plays and positive attitudes. One play led to another until the team won.
Great team effort, great team pitching and having two out hits and runs contributed to Sunday’s win against the Upper Iowa Peacocks.
