Bracciano named new registrar

After a national search, Susan Bracciano was named Western registrar, where she continues her service to students after being assistant registrar since 2002.

With the retirement of Dr. Gene Eulinger, Bracciano will assume the duties of registrar, which include student record keeping, class registration, and certifying graduation and athletic eligibility.

Bracciano has been a Western employee since July of 1997, and started in the registrar’s suite as Veterans Affairs and NCAA Academic Compliance Coordinator. In addition to Eulinger, Bracciano has also worked under Bob Hines, who preceded Eulinger. She credits both of them for her knowledge of how the entire department operates.

“Each taught me a great deal about how the registrar interacts with students and those on campus, as well as how an office functions efficiently. They set great examples as compassionate and trustworthy leaders, while also showing how important it is to keep things in perspective and to enjoy each day,” Bracciano said.

Changes for the office are expected, but it is too soon to tell exactly what those will entail. “After one week of being in the position, it is hard for me to say exactly what changes are in our future. One thing, however, I know will not change is the office’s attentiveness to serving the students and campus promptly and efficiently,” Bracciano said.

Administrative assistant Debbie Hargis anticipates those changes. “I’m sure there will be some, which I think is great,” she said.
Connie Cooper, who serves as the office’s inactive records clerk, agrees.

“She works well with this group, and she recognizes needs and will make necessary changes,” she said. “Sue is fun, but takes her job very seriously. She is very conscientious, and has a very good knowledge of the Banner system.”

The position of assistant registrar has recently been advertised, so a replacement for is expected soon. “I am confident we will have a great pool of candidates and will be able to hire a very qualified person in the near future,” Bracciano said. The position’s duties include coordinating grade processing, pre-registration, NCAA eligibility, and assuming the duties of the registrar during any absence.

Bracciano attended the University of Kansas for both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration. In 2005, Bracciano was named a Western Outstanding Employee.

Bracciano is excited about the new position she holds. “What I enjoy most about the office’s environment are the exceptional people. The staff is hard-working, very committed, supportive, caring, detailed, and extremely knowledgeable,” she said. “I feel very privileged to now be serving as registrar at Western.”
