Panhellenic Ball a huge hit

The 2007 Panhellenic Ball raises funds and lets Greeks dress up and let loose for a night of friends, food, and fun at the St. Joseph Country Club

Greek girls and their dates invaded the St. Joseph Country Club on Saturday night for the 2007 Western Panhellenic Ball. Panhellenic, for those who don’t know, is the governing body of all sororities on campus. The event was organized by Jelena Hindery, Vice President of Inter-Greek Relations. It drew nearly 150 attendees with great food, great friends and dancing.

“We couldn’t have hoped for a better night,” Hindrey said. “I was happy with the turnout, the club looked gorgeous, the food was amazing, and I think everyone in attendance had a great time.”

The theme for the evening was “New Year’s in November.” The ballroom was decorated with gorgeous centerpieces involving huge feathers, beautiful vases and white lighting. The dress for the evening was semi-formal, prompting many of the girls to show up in many varieties of cocktail and formal dresses in all shades of the rainbow.

The night started off with a welcome speech and the saying of grace by Panhellenic president Katy Schwartz. It was followed by a meal catered by the Country Club and it was served buffet-style.

During the speech, Schwartz listed a humorous top ten songs for Greeks at Western, and thanked everyone for making the year a huge success.
“I think everyone had a great time and we raised money for a great cause,” Schwartz said, “And I was also really impressed with how many people stuck around and danced after dinner. We had seven girls and three of their dates still left when we shut down at midnight. For holding this event for the first time in three years, it turned out very well.”

Serving both as a social event and a fundraiser for Western’s “Up ‘Till Dawn” campaign, tickets for the ball cost couples $50 and included not only the meal and dancing, but a great night of socializing and a keepsake champagne glass. “I had a great time, and Jelena did a great job of organizing this event,” said Jennifer Kohler, of Alpha Sigma Sigma.
