Volleyball goes 2-2 at Ramada Invitational

The Missouri Western volleyball team went 2-2 in the Ramada Inn Invitational. They went undefeated in day one, but struggled in day two losing both games.

The Griffons faced stiff competition in the tournament from teams like Indianapolis and South Dakota. Head coach Tiffany Mastin viewed the tournament as a success for the team.

“Anytime we can come out five hundred or above with this young team I think we can view that as a success,” Mastin said.

The Griffons had two players named to the all-tournament team. Those players were senior Alyssa Berg and freshman Meghan Voelz. Berg was surprised by the accomplishment.

“I was surprised,” Berg said. “I didn’t think I played that well. I was honored to be named to the all-tournament team.”

The Griffons also met up with their old coach Kyp Harasymowycz who is now an assistant coach for Indianapolis. Coach Mastin felt that it might have been awkward for some of the girls to play against their former coach.

“It is always hard to see a head coach come back and play against him,” Mastin said.

The Griffons still have much they can improve. Berg believes a big thing  the team needs to work on is teamwork.

“We need to play together as a team at all times,” Berg said. “We all just need to click together all at once.”

The Griffons will try to play more collectively as a team. They feel if they do this that it will translate into more victories for the team.
