Tennis team falls one match short

The women’s tennis team came close to winning their first match in the MIAA in more than a year when they faced Missouri Southern on Friday.

“We are trying to break the losing mentality,” said Kristy Pechous, a junior college transfer from Arizona that came to play tennis at Missouri Western. “We haven’t been able to
close out matches, but I think we can get there.”

The tennis match was tied at four with won game left.

Missouri Western’s Michelle Ritter did everything in her power to win the match with her teammates cheering her on in eager anticipation. This win would mean a lot to the women who were on last year’s team that had to take two girls off of the soccer team to fill up their roster after the best player on the team quit.

“We almost won,” Pechous said. “Michelle had a really tough match.”

The tennis team has played well this season, and even though their record may not show it, they are taking a step in the right direction. By the end of the season, the Griffons are hoping to knock off one of teams in the MIAA.
