Griffons get a beat down at hands of Southern

Western’s loss could cost them the chance to host the regional tournament

After winning the MIAA regular season crown in the previous game, celebrating their great season, cutting down the nets and all the other things that go along with the high of winning a championship, the Griffons were taken back down to Earth by the Missouri Southern Lions.

The Griffon women’s basketball team may have lost their chance to host a region in the NCAA tournament. They lost their last regular season game of the season on the road at
Missouri Southern 75-69.

The Griffons are rated No. 1 in their regional poll right now but things may change after the meltdown against Missouri Southern.

The loss may make it possible for West Texas A&M to leap frog the Griffons in the regional rankings. This would make the team travel south to Texas just like the football team did
during the fall after losing their last game of the season.

The Missouri Southern Lions played harder than the Griffons did on Saturday. Missouri Southern made 30 of 34 free throws and shot 41.1 percent from the field for the game.

The Lions played more like the MIAA champions than the Griffons did, though the Lions finished fifth in the conference.

Western only led twice and at the lowest point of the game for the Griffons, they were down by 18.

This could be the low point of the season for Western. This is the time the team needs to be playing well going into the MIAA and NCAA tournaments. They need to shake off this loss or they make an early exit out of both.
