The NCAA Tournament is one of the most highly cclaimed events in sports. The Missouri Western women, through their great play this season, may have potentially earned a No. 1 seed in the tournament. This would mean the tournament would come to St. Joseph. There are many good things that can come out of this, not only for the town, but also for the school.
The things the publicity could bring to Missouri Western are numerous. We would get money for it, of course. I’m not sure where that money would go, but a little extra never hurt anybody.
Western’s athletic programs are highly talented. However, in an area where some football
team up north (whose name I can’t recall) overshadows everything, this would be a major confidence boost. Perhaps with the tournament coming here and our women playing so well, we could step out of the shadow.
The women have had a great season and have developed a huge fan base. That fan base
can only get bigger by having national notoriety. The tournament would definitely help
us the rest of this season and hopefully carry over to the next.
The Western women will have much of that fan base returning next year. The money that is received will help the cause as well. The only way to go is up from here. The momentum we have had this season should carry over to next year. We need to say thank you to our basketball team for bringing such a positive outcome on and off the court. And who knows, maybe we will be on ESPN soon.
Overall, the women have had a great season and look to continue as the tournament comes around. However, they would probably win if they got on ESPN.
No one remembers who loses the national championship. Oh yeah, that’s why I can’t remember that football team’s name.
