The shiny Republican toy has lost its shimmer
My fellow Americans, what have we allowed to happen to our once semi-respected nation?
America is the greatest, richest and most advanced country in the world and has been for quite some time.
Yet I am not too warm on the thought of patriotism anymore. I don’t believe in the American way, and the dream ended a long time ago when innocence was shattered and buildings fell.
Who is to blame here? We all are to blame.
No fingers can point to a certain group. Sure certain groups and individuals have done more damage than others, but we have all allowed the rot of this country to fester under our watch.
For instance, the Republican Party designed a new toy for the Americans to play with, George W. Bush.
They packaged him in bright colors and fooled what appears a few too many of us into believing that this new toy would be better than his competitors.
The American people chose their toy, but as a child does, we have grown tired of our toy.
According to ratings, we are a little more than tired of him; we are totally over him and ready to move on to the next best lie.
Remember the good old days of a certain democratic president?
Those wonderful days where we could pick up the newspaper and the people dying around the world weren’t American troops and there were no signs of us going to fight a pointless war with people who didn’t care about human lives.
Instead, we were lead through the O.J. Simpson trial, Clinton’s sex life and introduced to a blue dress with a curious stain.
Recall those great days when the leader of the nation could make a speech and the next day the commentaries weren’t about his grammatical and presentational errors but the content of the speech.
These days are over and have been filed away in a folder labeled “unmentionables,†along with gay marriage, abortion and civil liberties. However, things are going to change, thank God, Allah, Buddha, Virgin Mary, whoever is to be thanked.
In 2008 we will finally be rid of this irritating rash called Bush and will replace him with hopefully someone that can pitch us a good lie.
There is no truth in politics; I understand that, but I can live with a good lie.
Just as the Easter Bunny is real, the United States is safe.
Give me a pretty egg and some candy, and I might forget that the Easter Bunny isn’t real and will cling to the fantasy that the egg came from a bunny.
In 2008 we the people need to make ourselves known as we did last year with the change in Congress. This country is still a democracy.
Educate yourself on who will be our next leader and not just choose the one who is the ‘law abidin’, God-fearin’ American who seems to be just like you. We all made a mistake; let’s correct it.
