We as Americans have so many reasons to give thanks
Quickly approaching is that glorious day.
It is the day of family, football and pumpkin pie.
It is the day that puts the usual gluttony of the American people to shame.
It is, of course, Thanksgiving.
Yes, children, pack up your dirty laundry and get ready for Mom’s home cooking.
Be careful, though, in the hubbub of the holidays not to forget why we’re celebrating.
A great majority of the world wishes we had what we have here in America.
We take so many things for granted here.
Of Americans falling under the label of “poor†according to the Census Bureau, 46 percent own their own homes.
Seventy-six percent have air conditioning.
He has more average living space than the norm in Paris, London, Vienna and Athens, to name just a few places.
Seventy-five percent of “poor†households own a car, while 30 percent own at least two.
Sixty-two percent of this country’s “impoverished†get cable or satellite reception.
When one considers that more than 1 billion people right now live on less than $1 a day…
When one considers that every day, over 16,000 children die from hunger…
When one considers that in the year 2000, nearly a billion people were illiterate…
One cannot help but be thankful.
Let’s make the most of this Thanksgiving.
