Off-campus students on on-campus dining

As a commuter I often feel like I am out of the loop when eating on campus. The food court is where I spend my time eating and hanging out friends during my break, but it seems to be unfriendly to commuters.

There are two choices when it comes to eating: the Grille Works which is priced fair, but it is very unhealthy and boring after awhile.

Then there is Quizno’s, which everyone was so happy to have on campus. I was excited to have Quizno’s until I found out that there wasn’t as much variety as before.

Quizno’s is really expensive when it is coming out of my pocket, not out of flex dollars.

I don’t see why we have to have name brand food.

I know that most people are like me and refer to themselves as “poor college kids.” Eating this food makes me thirsty, but there are no prices on the drinks.

I just spent a lot on a sandwich and now I am going to blindly pay for some chips and juice.

Due to the food court eating my money, I thought it would be wise to bring food from home.

It worked my first few years in college, but now the food court does not have a microwave to heat up my Ramen Noodles or leftovers.

Now I can either eat my food cold or have an empty wallet buying Quizno’s.

Maybe our food court should be friendlier to commuters with prices, microwaves and a little bit more option in what there is to eat.

I talked with one of the food court employees about getting some more food options.

He just told me to fill out a compliant card giving some ideas of food I would like to eat and it could become a weekly special if a lot of students wanted it too.

I have also asked about the microwave, but haven’t really received an answer.

There are a lot of commuters on campus, so if we get enough of us to ask for a microwave, labeling prices on the food, and more variety in food choice then maybe it would be a bit more commuter-friendly.
