Homecoming court announced

This year’s homecoming was one to remember for Jill Johnson and Gijon Robinson who were crowned Homecoming king and queen during halftime at the Missouri Western vs. Emporia State football game.

“I’m ecstatic!” Johnson said. “I’m just excited that I won. I’m glad that people thought that I would be the best queen for the University.”

There were five candidates for both queen and king, but the final decision was up to the student body.

One of the candidates said before hand that, “it just comes down to who the students recognize and want to win.”

With a long week of interviews and activities the moment had finally come for the candidates.

On a freezing and rainy field they all stood to see who the 2006 Homecoming king and queen would be.

King and queen runners-up were Seth Logston and Rebecca Monnig.

“I’m happy with everything, about being nominated and happy that everyone got to participate,” Logston said.

Homecoming week included several events which ranged from a talent show, to stand-up comedians and in the annual Homecoming parade.

Despite the rainy, cold weather on Saturday the parade was a success.

“We were very successful despite the weather,” said Homecoming chair Hannah Coy. “This year participation was a whole lot better than last year,” Coy said.

Parade Director Olin Kinsey was worried about more than the weather Saturday morning.

Homecoming window“We were suppose to line up from 7 to 8 a.m., but a lot of people weren’t there on time,” Kinsey said. “I was kind of freaking out thinking people were not going to be there, but we ended up getting all the people that said that they were going to be there.”.

All in all Kinsey said that he thought the parade went better than he expected.

Whitney Watson, junior, went to all the events during homecoming week. She said there was more participation this year which made it a great turn out.

“It went better than I thought it would,” Watson said. “It was fun, it turned out better than last year; everything was more organized.”
