Many students were upset that the Max Experience was approved, but so far the results look amazing. The turf has been put in, and the football field is looking more like a university field. Most university teams are turning to field turf instead of playing on the traditional dirt and grass. The old field wasn’t bad, but by the end of the season the field would get hard and rough. The stadium is used for both football and soccer. These athletes practice and play games on this field, which creates a heavy traffic flow. Because of the new turf, the teams don’t have to practice on a rigid, rough field that seems to cause injuries. In the past, after practicing everyday on the grass it would turn to hard dirt that felt like concrete. This is something that won’t happen with artificial field turf.

The field turf has tons of tiny little rubber pieces in it that gives it a natural feeling. Some turf, such as AstroTurf, is like running on pavement. The rubber for the field turf is spread through all the blades of turf. You can see this rubber. In fact, if you walk on the field the rubber will get on your shoes. It gets everywhere, including your skin, hair and pads. But, it does make it easier on athletes’ legs and joints. The field looks as good as it feels. It is painted with a Griffon at mid-field. The Griffon is in the shape of Missouri, which I think was a good choice. The new Griffon is a little spicy for the old school black helmets and black jerseys of the football team. The soccer and football lines are both on the field, which makes the field look gigantic. The new field goal posts are as bright yellow as a gold Griffon itself. The track outside the field is gone, but there is still a paved oval around the field that gives the field good closure. Touch the Turf was a couple weeks ago, and there was quite a turnout for the event. Many people came to watch the football practice and walked on the turf afterwards. It is good to see that people are excited about this new turf and the football and soccer seasons.

There have been people in the stands at almost every football practice and that is why these improvements are being made. It may cost a few more dollars for students, but believe me, it is worth it. If you don’t believe me, then come out to a couple games and see for yourself. I’m sure you will enjoy the atmosphere. Our athletes need support from our student body and community. The more support the athletic teams get the better they will be. After improvements to the basketball arena and baseball fields, this university will have more athletic prestige.
