Confessions

This is a letter from me directly to you with no interruptions.

First off, we will start off with a little background history. At the end of the fall 2005 semester I decided to switch my major from construction engineering (don’t ask) to journalism because I had a dream of becoming the next Monday night football girl; just like a certain woman some of you may remember.

After only one semester as a sports writer I landed the position of the sports editor of the Griffon News. Little do you know, I was the only person able to take on the role as Mrs. Sports Editor.

Now I am not looking at it as a bad thing. I absolutely believe this opportunity is a positive step towards my dreams, but I have to be 100 percent honest, I was petrified at the idea of being in charge of a school newspaper’s sports section. It’s quite silly if you think about it; because I don’t know even now how many students actually read the school paper.

Readers or not it scared me.

Sept. 10 was the first time I laid out a page from top to bottom. When I say “layout a page,” I mean from the box surrounding the golf article to the bylines under Andrew Mead scoring a touchdown. That is lot of pressure on me.

Just to let all of my readers know, I spent 12 hours in the newsroom critiquing and perfecting every last detail of that page.

However, as we all find out some time in our own life, none of us are perfect. I would like to take a moment and admit I am not perfect. And if anyone knows me beyond my first name, they already know that.

I am reminded of a certain Spiderman quote; “Peter: with great power comes great responsibility.”

Yes I know it sounds pretty goofy, but honestly that’s how I feel. I want to be the first to confess I am not the world’s best speller (thanks to my mama), and I don’t know everything there is to know about sports. So bare with me people! P.S. Go Griffons!!!
